composer's greatest joy
The greatest joy for a composer is to hear their works performed.
Today, I spent several hours with two good friends who are big supporters of my music. I shared with them my desire to hear them sing and perform some of my songs. They were thrilled about the idea.
I taught them the songs that resonated most with their style and personalities. Watching them work through the tunes and being there to support and answer any questions was the highlight of my day.
The best part wasn’t hearing them play the songs perfectly—it was hearing them bring their own style and infusion of ideas. As they became more comfortable with the tunes, I could hear their unique musical voices emerge. Experimenting with harmonies, vocal runs, and their own twists made it all the more exciting. The songs aren’t static artifacts but living entities, taking on new life with each performer and performance.
I can't wait to listen to their own take on these songs.
