Is perfection the enemy?

Is perfection the enemy?

Maybe not “the” enemy but often an adversary, perfection has gotten in my own way on more occasions than I'd like to admit. The need to approach perfection or some ideal can so often sap the joy of play, of experimentation, of exploration.

Perfectionism is its own pathology, and you can surround yourself around people who embody the affliction enough to consider it normal or even a positive quality. It may yield results and progress, but at what cost?

The cost is weighty — it may very well be our well being or our joy.
