my starlink mini power setup
Friends keep asking what I use to run my Starlink Mini off-grid, so here it is.
the gear
- Starlink Mini: the dish. Small enough for a backpack.
- Anker Prime power bank, 27,650mAh: runs the Mini for about 2–3 hours. TSA-friendly.
- Anker SOLIX C200, 192Wh: the bigger battery for a full day, roughly 5–9 hours.
- Starlink Mini USB-C cable: connects either battery to the Mini.
- Starlink Mini car adapter: for powering it while driving.
the one thing that matters
The Mini needs a real 100W (20V/5A) USB-C source. 65W chargers won't run it. Some third-party USB-C to DC cables work and some don't; I returned two before giving up and using the official one.
plan
I'm on the Roam plan and pause it when I'm not traveling. Standby is about $5 a month.
That's it.
