reflect at a resort

We're closing out 2024. As each year winds down, I like to take time for a systematic reflection on my wins, my losses, and what I’m looking forward to next.

One of my most memorable experiences doing this was in 2019, when I spent several days at a beautiful resort near Chiang Mai in Thailand. Verdant, tranquil, and peaceful.

At first, the cost of the stay was a deterrent. Somewhere around $200–$300 per night, the resort felt like a splurge for me back then. Why spend money on a resort when I could find a cheap place to stay and reflect?

Looking back, those days at the resort were 100% worth the cost.

I had the time, the space, and the beauty to fully immerse myself in reflection. Surrounded by serene nature, I felt inspired. With all the logistics—like food—handled by the resort’s restaurants, I didn’t have to worry about what or where to eat. My only "task" was to sit down and reflect deeply.

Carving out deliberate time and space for reflection is now something I view as essential. It’s worth the cost. When we try to fit deep reflection into our day-to-day routines, we often can't go beyond surface-level thoughts. The distractions and associations of our daily lives hold us back.

This year, I want to pick up this tradition again. I’m searching for a new destination where I can dedicate several days to uninterrupted reflection.

As you wrap up your year, consider creating space to truly drop in. Where will you go to reflect and recharge?
