take the first step, let the rest follow
Most of the time, all it takes is a single step. The rest follows.
On a car ride to the airport today, I needed to tell someone I loved them. It took me a good 30 minutes of overthinking before I started the conversation. But once I said the first words, the rest followed.
Later, on the flight, I sat next to someone I wanted to talk to. No agenda, no real purpose — I just like people, and sometimes I feel a pull to connect. I paused. Part healthy caution, mostly just overthinking. But when I finally asked, “Are you traveling or coming home?” a long conversation opened up.
Maybe you’ve felt it too—that inner pull to speak up or reach out, only to be met with fear, doubt, or hesitation. Sometimes it’s legit — maybe you’re not in the right headspace. But most of the time, at least for me, it becomes a challenge to who I want to be: someone who shows up, even when it’s uncomfortable.
What helps is remembering this: taking the first step usually takes care of the rest. Take the leap of faith—let gravity do its thing. You might be surprised how soft the landing is.
The next time you feel that hesitation — before a hard truth, a bold ask, or a simple hello — let yourself step forward anyway. You might fall. You might fly. But you'll know you moved.
