keep showing up: progress is momentum

Keep showing up.

Getting something right on the first try isn't a badge of honor. Sure, you may earn a gold star, but you can't feed yourself with stickers.

Returning day after day, failure after failure, is what moves you closer to your goal. It's not a game of leapfrog. It's a journey of taking one step at a time—even when you can't see the horizon.

Some days, I feel incredibly energized, excited by how much progress I can make on my projects. I think to myself: "If only every day could be like this, I would be unstoppable!"

But here's the truth, self: you are stoppable. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep for hours. Talk about derailing my morning, my routines, and my focus. Today, I’m far from a productivity hero.

And that’s okay.

Here’s the thing I’ve learned: showing up, even when you're running at 30% capacity, still moves the needle. It contributes to a larger momentum.

Showing up can mean different things depending on the day.
Sometimes, showing up is giving yourself permission to rest. Taking a whole day to recharge, without making measurable progress toward a goal, can still be aligned with your long-term commitment. Other times, it’s about taking the smallest step—a quick phone call, a five-minute brainstorm, or jotting down an idea. The key is nurturing your internal motivation and building habituated daily work on a goal.

So, today is a slow day for me. When off days hit you, ask yourself: How can I show up today? Decide how you’ll stay in line with your commitments to life—even if it’s just a baby step.
