true love as spiritual practice

Scott Peck describes true love as a spiritual principle — an unattached commitment to your partner’s growth.

Not everyone gets there. But it’s a beautiful thing to aim for.

Love means investing in someone’s becoming. Not in what they give you. Not in how they make you feel.

And when you choose partnership — when you marry, or commit — you’re also caring for something beyond you both: the relationship. A third thing, born between you.

Maybe it’s selfless love that keeps that third thing alive.
