the dance of routine and variety
Sometimes, we cling to routine. Other times, we chase variety.
Let routine and variety dance together.
Let them have their time in the spotlight — their solo, their moment to shine.
But ultimately, it is a partner dance.
A life of only routine is monotony. A life of only variety is wandering.
Routine — the quiet engine that powers your goals.
Variety — the spark that opens doors you didn’t know were there.
They fill in each other’s gaps, each bringing what the other lacks.
Together, they make a partnership worth watching.
And if you notice one partner leading too often, try switching it up.
A switch can be simple. If you’re like me — wake up, brush teeth, coffee, write — maybe one day, you skip the solo script and meet a friend for coffee instead. If you're more on the variety side, try on a 5 minute meditation or gratitude journal for a week.
And when you do, ask yourself: what is variety teaching me about routine? What is routine teaching me about variety?
When you let them dance together, they create a choreography all their own -- part rhythm, part surprise.
